On Tuesday
9/9, the Girls Cross Country team had its first meet of the year, beating
McMahon, Central, Harding, and Bassick. The meet was held at Beardsley Park—it
was the first time an FCIAC meet was held on this course. It was a great course
for spectators, but a moderate to hard course for the runners. Hills were the
major obstacle.
“We were on
a new course that we had not previously run that was pretty hilly, but we were
able to pull through for an easy defeat against the other teams,” senior
captain Lindsey Holek said.
Darien
senior Anne Johnston took first, finishing the 2.54 mile race in a time of 16
minutes and 47 seconds. Senior Amanda Percarpio came in second with a time of
17 minutes and 3 seconds. Freshman Emilia Callery ran a phenomenal race in
which she finished ninth with a time of 18 minutes and 12 seconds.
Catch the
girls at their next meet, the Wilton Invitational, on Saturday September 13th
at 10 am.
