This past Thursday,
September 18th, 2014 The Blue Wave JV soccer team took on
Wilton, tying them 3-3 in an extremely exciting match that went down to the
wire in their 3rd game of the season.
Darien looked completely
dominant throughout the first half scored 3 goals before half time. The
first goal was scored within 15 seconds of kick off by junior Jack McCann who
stunned the Wilton defense by slotting a shot by the keeper. Two more would come
before the end of the half, one on a penalty kick scored by Peter Case
and another scored by Seth Canaday. Darien’s chances looked favorable until
Wilton scored against the run of play in the 54th minute. From then on
the Blue Wave was on their heels, absorbing pressure and then counter
attacking. This became their new game plan until Wilton struck again in the
75th minute. The Wave looked like they might sneak a win by until their hopes
were shattered by a tremendous volley goal scored by a Wilton forward in the
79th minute.
When asked why he
thought his team had such drastically different performances in each half
sophomore Tommy Kreuch said this: “We started off strong and had a lot of
chemistry and were able to dominate the first half. When the second half came
around we were unable to maintain our formation and defend the wings which is
why we conceded all three goals”.
