On Monday, September 30th,
the Darien Girls’ Varsity Volleyball had a huge victory against Fairfield
Ludlowe. Ludlowe, one of the top teams
in the FCIAC, beat Darien in the State tournament last year, which was a
crushing blow to the BWVB organization, who are known for their dominance in both the FCIAC and State.
But this year, Darien seems to be
ready for a comeback with yesterday’s shutout.
Winning all three sets, Darien won the first set 25-15, second set
25-18, and third set 25-8, as they managed to not drop a set the entire
game. Freshman, Caroline Martzolf had a
huge stuff block during the third set, while seniors Celia Martzolf and Claire
Naughton ran multiple slides. Junior Keli Keyes also had excellent ball control
thoughout the game.
After the game, senior Celia Martzolf
said, “We played a strong team, but we stuck together and we pushed through
every set… We want to win FCIACs and States.”
Capping off its record of 8-0, Girls’ Volleyball is
projected to have a promising season.
The team’s next game is a home one and Wednesday against St. Joe’s.
