-By Tally Thoren -

The Darien High School Sailing Team is getting ready for the O’Day Cut Race on this Saturday. They currently have a 9-2 record.

“This weekend is going to be difficult but I think we have a chance!” junior Ines Castro said.

The team beat Greenwich Academy, Greens Farms Academy, Brunswick, and Greenwich High School out of Greenwich Harbor on April 15. In other regattas, the Blue Wave defeated Fairfield Prep and Hotchkiss School.

The team traveled up to Lakeville to sail against Hotchkiss and also Portsmouth Abbey last Saturday. Though the races were close, Darien lost.

Darien is currently ranked in the top 15 sailing teams in New England. They will face some tough teams in Portland, Maine, Cape Cod, and Rhode Island.

Varsity sailors are Captains Maarten Eenkema van Dijk and Mackenzie Milne, Willem Sandburg, Ines Castro, Justin Marks, Tally Thoren, Olivia Crane, Katie Maren, and Mathias Amyotte.
