JV Struggles in First Matchup

-By: Sam Nelson-

Darien Boys’ JV Golf team faced a 175-152 loss to the Greenwich Cardinals JV Golf team at the Griffith Harris Course in Greenwich on Tuesday. (4/20) From the start, it did not look promising for the boys because the Greenwich team had three seniors in its lineup. “It was our first match of the year and I think our team took a while to get adjusted to match play,” junior Brian Curry said. The two top players, Curry and junior Chris Carmody (pictured) put forward strong performances shooting 42 and 41 respectively. Carmody started out a little rough, hitting two balls out of bounds, and ending with an eight. After a pep talk with partner Curry, Carmody was able to turn it around to lead the team. The end result was not what they hoped. The highest score for the Greenwich team was a 42, while everyone else was under 40. Despite the loss, freshman Kieran Suri had a promising debut, shooting a 47 in his first ever golf match. The other two members in the line-up, sophomores Jim Anderson and Kevin Steinthal shot 50 and 47 respectively. The JV team looks to rebound against Farfield Ludlowe at Smith Richardson in Fairfield at 3:30pm on Wednsday. (4/21)
