Wilton Warriors Lose Lax Battle

-By: Claire Dickson-

Darien girls lacrosse proved itself once more in a victory over long-time rival the Wilton Warriors on Friday. (4/16) As the clock began to run, the Wilton offense came down strong on Darien’s defense, getting the first goal five minutes into the game. This gave a wake-up call to the Wave. Senior captain Liz Calby fired back tying the game one minute after Wilton’s goal. This back and forth goal scoring went on for most of the game, but the Wave girls finally got their groove back scoring five goals by half time. But the Warriors hadn’t given up yet. They gained momentum during the half, scoring three goals in a row. In the end, the Darien girls won 16-9. But the biggest scorer was senior Ann Fucigna, (pictured) who played the game of her life scoring five goals combined by three apiece for Calby and senior Paige Gasparino. The next game is Tuesday (4/20) against Greenwich as they play for the first seed in the FCIAC. Let’s hope the Wave dynasty can keep up its reign. Photo courtesy of the Darien Times
