The 2012 Girls Indoor Track team celebrated a victory at the FCIAC Eastern Division Championship this past Friday, January 27 at Wilton High School. Darien finished with a score of 170.20, beating Wilton, the second placed team, by 82.6 points. “It’s a great start to our post season and hopefully shows that there’s more good things to come for our team,” junior Grace Loh said, who finished first in the 1000 meter run. The pole-vaulters in particular dominated the finals, taking the top four spots. Sophomore Jessica Thornbury claimed first with a height of 9’4, followed by freshman Madeleine Schneider at 8’6, and juniors Grace Brown and Eleanor Smith, who both peaked at 7’6. “It was a great meet for us because we placed in each event we competed in,” Brown said. This is not the first time Darien has won FCIAC East. “We’re really excited because this is the ninth year in a row that we have won. It’s been an exciting season because we have a lot of good freshmen who will carry the team in the future,” Smith said. This Thursday, February 2nd, the girls will compete again at FCIAC in Hillhouse, New Haven.
