Boys JV Basketball Defeated by Bassick High School

By: Marguerite Morgan

The Boys JV Basketball team lost 27 to 59 in a tough home game against Bassick High School Wednesday evening. Darien came out with a strong start when sophomore Dan Murphy scored Darien’s first basket on a penalty shot. Murphy seemed to set the tone for the rest of the game as Darien continuously drew fouls and was awarded with foul shots. Darien continued to hold back Bassick with baskets from both sophomore Ian Burgoyne and sophomore Graham Helgans making the score 5 to 6. However, from there Bassick’s three-pointer roll kicked in and Darien was behind 5 to 17 by the end of the period. Bassick capitalized on our occasional lack of taking care of the ball, leading to many turnovers. At halftime, Darien was down 10 to 35. The second half of the game Bassick’s tall players seemed to eat up all of the rebounds putting them further in the lead. Darien’s continuance to draw fouls couldn’t make up for the difference in the score and the boys lost by 32 points. Come support the boys in their home game next Wednesday at 5:15 as they take on Fairfield Ludlowe!
