Boys Hockey Prevails in FCIAC Showdown

By Jay Alter - Entering Saturday's (2/11/12), the Darien Blue Wave and the Ridgefield Tigers were both undefeated in FCIAC competition this season. The two teams battled to see who would take the #1 seed in the FCIAC tournament, which starts later this month. Ridgefield got on the board first, beating goalkeeper and captain, Max Rothston, early in the first period. The Blue Wave rallied right back tying it up 1-1 at the end of the first period courtesy junior, Jack Knowlton. Senior Captain, Hank Glick went down with a dislocated thumb in the first period and did not return, which meant a big part of the defense was lost. The Wave prevailed without him, with three goals in the 2nd period, making the game 4-1. Seniors, Nick Bruno and George Gregory combined for the three goals. Ridgefield scored with 22 seconds remaining in the game, but it was to little, to late as the Blue Wave won 4-2 to claim the top spot in the FCIAC.
