This past Saturday, Darien High School Varsity Football devastatingly lost to St. Joseph’s High School in double overtime with a score of 35-21 at the DHS Stadium.
Though the game did not turn out as planned, some DHS students recall it as one of the most exciting games they have ever seen. “The game was so exciting; the current seniors did a great job at leading the student section in cheering,” junior Sam Meyjes said.
The game did, in fact, have quite a few exciting moments in the first half. Darien struck first making the score 6-0. St. Joe’s then bounced back and made the score 14-6. Senior Matty D’Andrea made a spectacular interception leading to Darien scoring again as well as making a two point conversion, making the score 14-14. Darien struck once more leading 21-14 at the half.
The second half of the game was more of a show for St. Joe’s, who tied the score 28-28 causing the game to go into overtime. The first overtime was teeth-clenching, but both teams did not score. In the second overtime, St. Joe’s pulled away with a touchdown, and Darien was unable to match it.
Come check out the team’s next game at DHS vs. Danbury!
