On Friday December 27th the Blue Wave Basketball team took
on Staples in their first game of the La Vista Tournament. Darien beat the Wreckers 65-59 in a
competitive game.
Darien was ahead most of the game showing strong defense,
thanks to their defensive anchor senior Chima Azuonwu, while senior captain
Matt Staubi led the way on offense with 23 points and 11 dimes.
Staubi said after the game that “it felt great to get that first
win of the season, and we are excited, but it's a long season and we have a long
way to go and we are looking forward to more wins like that one.” He also said they communicated well on
defense, closed out on shooters and had pose on offense but most importantly
they closed out the game.
The Wave's next game is Saturday December 28th against New
Canaan at home.
