by Bridget Hannigan

On Wednesday February 19th, the Darien Girls hockey team hosted the Amity/Chesire/New Haven Co-Op team at 4:30pm. The game started off with a bang, with junior Sammy Nielsen scoring a goal in the first 20 seconds; she was assisted by senior Ellie Bennet. The first period went on to have two additional goals for Darien, scored by sophomore Georgia Cassidy and junior Julia Arrix. Senior Shannon Hall was in goal with one save during the first period.

The second and third period produced more goals from Nielsen, Cassidy, sophomores Marissa Baker and Schuyler van den Broek, and freshman Cassidy Schiff. This game leaves the Darien girls hockey team 17-2 overall, and 13-0 in FCIAC play.

Regarding the future, captain Sage Thatcher said, “We want to defend our title of FCIAC champions and win states." Junior Julia Arrix also said, “We want to win states because we haven’t since 2009." Best of luck to the team as they enter FCIACs and states.
