By Julia Cobb
The Darien High School boys and girls cross country teams competed in the FCIAC championship meet at Waveny Park in New Canaan this past Monday (10/24). The boys suffered a four point loss to Danbury who finished with 54 points to Darien’s 58 points. The Hatters have captured 10 of the last 11 FCIAC championship titles and continued the tradition this season. The Darien High School girls cross country team finished in fifth place behind Ridgefield, Greenwich, Wilton and Westhill.
The boy’s top finishers included senior Charlie Baird in sixth place followed by senior Michael Johnston in seventh place with times of 16:31 and 16:46. Sophomore Marshall Huffman finished close behind Johnston at 16:52, earning him a tenth place finish. Freshman Alex Ostberg also contributed to the team by placing fourteenth with a time of 17:02.
The girl’s team was led by junior Grace Loh who finished in fourth place with an impressive time of 15:08.
The FCIAC championship meet concludes the cross country season for the Junior Varsity cross country teams. However, the fastest eight athletes of both the boys and girls Varsity cross country teams will continue on to compete in the CIAC Class L Championship meet at Wickham Park in Manchester (10/29).
