Wave Football Improves to 3-0 with Win Over St. Joe’s

by Blake Lange
Rob Trifone and his stellar football team made a big mark at St. Joseph’s High School last Saturday, October 1, with a 31-7 victory. Wave offense in combination with outstanding defense was the key for maintaining its undefeated record in the FCIAC.
Darien was able to start with momentum by scoring on the first drive of the game thanks to a 21-yard run by junior Peter Gesualdi. The extra point attempt was blocked, keeping the Wave to just a 6 point lead. Although, the Cadets were able to answer with a touchdown of their own, and completing the extra point to take a 7-6 lead.
Soon after, Darien reclaimed the lead on a quick possession including a 55-yard touchdown catch by senior Corey Eppley. Junior quarterback Henry Baldwin then completed a pass to junior Matt Forelli for a 2-point conversion and a 14-7 lead. After this scoring drive, the Blue Wave refused to look back, yielding no further touchdowns and scoring a few of their own. Gesualdi capped off the first half with a second touchdown to give Darien a 21-7 halftime lead.
After the break, scoring slowed down. The only score in the third quarter was a 30-yard field goal by senior kicker Chris Smith. The scoring ended with a second touchdown for Eppley on a 15-yard connection from Baldwin.
The Blue Wave football team looks to continue their hot streak with a game against Danbury this Thursday, October 6. It will hope to impress with yet another win on the road in an exciting and successful season.
