Girls Soccer Takes Down Trinity in Muddy Conditions

By Jessica DeMaio

On an overcast Friday afternoon (9/30) the Blue Wave Girls Soccer team defeated Trinity Catholic 9-1 in an away victory on rough field conditions. The combination of a grass field and the buckets of rain received in the last few weeks resulted in a slippery soccer ball and loss of footing all too often for members of both teams. Senior Marieke Bravo went for the hat trick with all three goals coming in the first half of the game. Senior Caity Dee also scored in the first half of the game, which gave Darien a 4-1 lead at halftime. It truly was a team effort win, with great contributions coming from both offense and defense and several different players. Sophomore goalie Phoebe Taylor had multiple impressive saves to keep Trinity to just one goal all game long. Seniors Amy Biggart, Sara Shaker, and Katie Maccarone combined for spectacular defense, as well as sophomore Ellis Bennett, who kept Trinity far away from the goal. Sophomores Dillon Schoen and Morgan Sawitsky, as well as junior Vanessa Budd and senior Emily Blosio each had one goal apiece to end Trinity’s hopes of a late game comeback. Great offensive was also played by junior Caity Lowden, sophomores Alexa Sheldon and Kelly Karczewski, junior Parker Hamill, and senior Elyssa Ganser. This win puts the team’s record at 4-1-2, with a big game against Fairfield Ludlowe home on the DHS turf next Wednesday (10/5).
