Boys Soccer Ties Undefeated Rivals
By Jay Alter - The Boys Soccer team tied New Canaan this afternoon (10/10/11) as they rebounded from their first loss of the season against Wilton last week. The rams got on the board early, scoring on a beautiful cross into the box, putting the blue wave in a 1-0 hole. Junior, Spencer McMullin got the Wave back in the game with some speed and fancy footwork to the tie the game up by halftime. Senior Captain, Matt Collier struggled due to a groin injury in the second half but was still able to lead the darien defense to a clean sheet in the second half. The Darien offense could not capitalize in the second half despite efforts from Senior Lewis Clarke and Juniors Ben Highton and Brennan Branca resulting in a 1-1 draw. The Wave now stand at 7-1-2 with 23 points and a top of the FCIAC as well as the FCIAC east division. They also forced a New Canaan defender into a red card, resulting in an ejection and a 1-game suspension. The wave will take on Staples later this week as their schedule becomes more difficult.
