Girls’ Basketball Beats Westhill

Girls’ Basketball (12-7) came away with a crucial victory over Westhill also 12-7 at home on Wednesday. (2/16) Spirits were high in the first half, Darien managed to hold the Stamford girls at 0-0 for the first four minutes. The energy of Senior Day honoring Julia Boulton, Nicole Buch and Shannon Burke was evident in the defensive match up ending the first half with a score of 21-13. At the second half Darien’s expertise and perseverance paid off. Sophomore Kate Bushell (pictured) played tough racking up nearly half the teams over all points and had critical blocks and steals that resulted in a 46-34 win. Buch also contributed with 13 points, sophomore Meg Marren (pictured) with eight and freshmen Emily Stein with two points. Darien was able to stay ahead the entire game and certainly left the season with a bang. Now they are headed on to FCIACs and States! Their next game will be 4PM this Saturday (2/19) against Trumbull at Trumbull High School.
