Students Get Ready for Super Bowl Sunday

-By: Doug Miller and Sara Shaker -

Super Bowl XLV (45) Sunday plans are heating up the cold winter. The big game this Sunday (2/6) has many celebrating big and others are celebrating small for the match-up between the 12-4 Pittsburgh Steelers and the 10-6 Green Bay Packers at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Junior Dominique Gelineau, a Steelers fan, (pictured) hosts a Super Bowl party every year. “My stepdad invites about 30 to 40 people over,” Gelineau said. “If something big happens in the game, we all jump up and down and scream.”

Not everyone plans to go all out though. “I just hang out with my family and watch the game,” junior Max Rothston said. “I go to a friend’s house and snack,” senior Ashwin Basu said. Due to the fact school is the following day, hanging out and doing something low maintenance is a popular trend.

Many Super Bowl parties will differ depending on who’s playing in the big game. With a Super Bowl win from the Steelers two years ago, many people are betting against the Packers. “Steelers will definitely win,” said junior Emily Hardin, “I can’t stand Packers fans!”

“I think the Packers deserve a Super Bowl victory because their last win was over 10 years ago,” junior Caroline Schau said. While some cheer on the teams that are playing, others are still upset over their own teams’ previous loss. “I’m still mad that the Jets lost,” junior Katie Witschi said.

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest days of the year. Whether you are a sports fan or not there is something for everyone from the Black Eyed Peas halftime show to the games' finest athletes. Be sure to catch the action on Fox at 6:30pm.
