Spurs claim Top Spot on the Backs of Smith and Walsh

With 4 games under each teams belt, the league has begun to spread apart, and the good teams are separating from the bad… a little. The league is still basically a total toss up, and the numbers next to the teams mean less than ever. Credit Joe Marzano for the draft of the decade.

.Spurs (3-1) – The Spurs get the top spot from me for this blog. They boast a tied-for-league best 3 and 1 record. They are also on a two game roll. Kids came up to me in the hallway after the first set of rankings and told me they were up too high. Turns out Walsh and company are a force to be reckoned with, however still not a very clear cut favorite.
.Suns (3-1) – The Suns drop just one spot from last week. They hold one of the most cohesive and potent offensive attacks in the league headed by senior Bobby Minon and Brunswick baller junior Jack Sherwood. The Suns suffered their first loss to the Rockets the week before break, but hey, in a league this good everyone is bound to lose. Look for the Suns to keep scoring points and winning games.
.Kings (2-2) – Ranked highest out of the six 2-2 teams are the Kings. The reasoning for this placement is simple, their only two losses have come to the Suns and Spurs. Seniors Bobby Weaver and Kyle Mangan paired with juniors Craig Lamantia and Carter Rae, when they play well at the same time, formulate one of the hardest line ups to stop.
.Grizzlies (2-2)- The Griz is a tough group to beat. While they hold two losses like the majority of the league, they are yet to let a team run away with a game. Both losses were three points or less, one of them to the number 2 Suns. Senior Luke Osherow balls hard and senior Scott Plank is one of the leagues sharpest shooters from three. And, frankly, he’s my favorite player in the league.
.Nuggets (2-2) – You got to love a nice two game winning streak. After coming out of the gate slow, the Nuggets have begun to live up to their potential. Senior Nicky Neville is a strong athlete that can do more than lead the team. They possess two solid guards in senior Geoff Hubbard and junior Christian Bognar. Senior Tommy Nicholls can hit Tres in bunches.
.Lakers (2-2)- The Lake Show is all around very solid. Great athletes all over the court that can run with anyone. Collectively this also one of the tallest teams in the league. They have all the athletic ability to be monstrous, just lack the pure basketball IQ and skill. I would like to see seniors Corey Eppley and Jon Magnusson to step it up to take this team from solid to very good. If that happens and senior Big Jim Anderson can keep draining threes, this team would be very, very tough.
.Rockets (2-2)- The squad suffered a tough loss at the hands of the Nuggets, but still are very solid. They have a great scorer in Chris Webber, oh wait I mean junior Jackson Whiting, as well as a strong post threat in his twin Pierce. In addition to the Whitings are a genuinely good offensive basketball player, senior Russell Palmer, and a great point guard in junior Ben Highton, who is perhaps my second favorite player in the league. I put this drop in ranking on the scorekeeper as much as the squad.
.Mavericks (2-2) – Despite the 8th place ranking, this team is more than capable and can really defeat anyone in the league. They simply have lost to lesser opponents than that of the Rockets. However, it is virtually a tie between ranks 6 to 8.
.Trailblazers (1-3) – Keeping in mind that they only had 5 players this past game, their record inclines me to put the Blazers 9th. They are not bad though, they possess the ability to beat everyone in the league on a good day. Look for a turn around from this club.
.Thunder (1-3)- That leaves my team in dead last. I’m almost too upset to write about it. We really are not that bad and will win some games… Eventually… I hope. Hey, at least you can’t call me biased.
