Blue Wave Volleyball Destroys Harding

By Bridget Hannigan

On Tuesday September 17th, Darien High School’s girls volleyball varsity team played Warren Harding of Bridgeport at home. The Blue Wave finished with a strong victory, winning all three sets. The score for the first set was 25-8 Darien, second set was 25-5, and the third set finished the game with 25-3. Darien scored the highest possible amount of points in each set, 25. For those of you not familiar with volleyball, if a team wins the first three sets the game ends. But, if they do not win three the game continues to four sets, five sets, and then if need be, a tie-breaker.
Senior and captain Celia Martzolf said , “It was an overall strong performance. We didn’t let up and we stayed focused.” Martzolf noted impressive performances by sophomore Hadley Henderson and junior Anna Barsanti. Both had “a lot of kills from the outside” Martzolf said. The team is expected to play Trumbull this Friday the 19th at home as well. Martzolf adds the Trumbull game will be more competitive, we wish the team the best of luck!
