As the spring sports season gears up, we take a look at one of the most successful teams on campus: boys’ tennis. After finishing first in the Class M state tournament and losing to New Canaan in the FCIAC quarterfinals, the Blue Wave hopes to add to its success. Seniors Reily Harmer, Louie Rawden, Charlie Taylor,(pictured) and Britt Gordon will be captaining this year’s team, to what they hope, as an FCIAC champion squad. When asked about the expectations , Gordon said, “We are going to need to work extremely hard this year because we are now in Class L, a much more difficult state tournament. If all goes well, I do believe we will have a successful season.” Gordon also told Neirad the team has strong underclassmen talent including juniors Rupert Hansford and Malcolm Willis, freshman Ryo Usami, and sophomore Cal Kevorkian. When Hansford was asked about his opinion of this year’s squad, he said, “I really hope to add on to the team’s success, and I believe under our coach [Tom Stepkwoski] we can make a run in the FCIAC and state tournaments.” Even though the team’s top three single players in the 2009 season graduated, the team still believes they can win it all. Come watch the Blue Wave play in its first match at 4pm on Wednesday (4/7) at home against Brien McMahon.
