Girls' Blue Wave Softball consumed Harding High on the Bridgeport team's home field in a mere five-inning game on Monday. (4/12) Varsity's main pitcher, sophomore Jessica DeMaio (pictured), had a rough start, but ultimately led Darien's defense to victory. Although she walked the first batter, DeMaio made a fierce return and struck out the next three. In the bottom of the first, junior Nicole Buch started Darien's thunderous hitting streak with a double to left field. Sophomore Emily Blosio then stepped up to the plate, second in the offensive line up, and brought Buch home with a relentless drive that soared down the third base line. Varsity catcher sophomore Olivia Godz pumped out a double that brought Blosio in to score the second run. The Wave kept racking up the scoreboard thanks to the contribution of freshman Emma Hamilton, who scored a triple. The first inning ended Darien leading 11 to zip. Harding finally put themselves on the scoreboard to make it 15-1, coach Nick DeMaio takes mercy on Bridgeport by emptying the bench and putting in some JV players as well. Darien was declared the winner in the 5th inning with a score of 18-1. The girls will take on Norwalk High School at 4pm at Norwalk on Friday. (4/16)
