Darien Boys Varsity Tennis started the season off winning comfortably over Brien McMahon 6-1 on Wednesday. (4/7) Senior captain Louie Rawden recently stepped in to the coveted #1 singles spot for Darien, but he faced a tough match against McMahon standout Thomas Luchars in his match and lost 6-3, 6-3. Senior captain Britt Gordon won his #2 singles match in convincing fashion 6-2, 6-2, senior Dennis Conetta won his match at #3 singles 6-1, 6-4, and senior captain Reilly Harmer won his match at #4 singles 6-2, 6-0. Junior Rupert Hansford took the #5 singles spot with a strong showing at pre-season practice, and easily won his match. Senior Sam Jackson and freshman Ryo Usami won at #1 doubles easily, with Usami filling in to play for senior captain and two- time state doubles champion Charlie Taylor who was away. The sophomore duo of Cal Kervorkian and Briton Dailey, both first-year varsity players, also won easily at #2 doubles. The Darien guys are away at Westhill today (4/8) and look to continue the good start.
