Girls’ Soccer Team glides into next round of States

The girls’ soccer team took a 3-0 victory over Woodstock Academy in the first round of the CIAC tournament on a chilly Tuesday afternoon at home. (11/9) The first goal was on a kick by senior captain Georgie Highton, which got loose from Woodstock’s goalie’s save and was kicked in by freshman Morgan Sawitsky. In the second half Darien had several attempts at a goal, including one early in the first few minutes of the half by freshman Dillon Schoen. Darien’s second goal rnoon came from junior Leslie Yuen with 28 minutes left in the half, and the team’s third and final goal came from senior Julia Boulton on an assist by Highton with 20 minutes left. With 16 minutes remaining freshman Phoebe Taylor went in as goalie, but neither her nor senior captain Charlotte Phillips faced much offensive action from Woodstock. The girls now advance to the second round of the CIAC tournament away in Watertown at 2pm on Thursday. (11/11)
