Sprinting Towards a New Season: Girls Indoor Track Preview

-By: Katrina Vassell-

The winter track season is just beginning, and the girls have already begun a diligent training schedule. The girls hope to live up to their legacy, and gain another FCIAC title. “The team was one of the top three at FCIAC’s for the last seven years, and we plan on being as strong a team this year as in the past,” girls track coach Steve "Norrie" Norris said. If the team does not place first, second, or third in enough events, it will only be able to score half the amount of point needed for a fourth victory at the next state indoor meet. Placing at the top will be difficult because many skilled athletes, such as Class of 09 grad Christy Gasparino left along with junior Robin Bone who now attends school in Canada. Luckily the team has strong and experienced captains ready to take charge. Senior Elizabeth Crafford placed in the top two at the FCIAC pole vault last year. Senior Amanda Dobler is a middle runner and distance runner. She was on the first team at FCIAC in the cross country competition. According to Coach Norris, senior Sarah Dailey “has the best high jump,” and is a motivational captain. Senior Megan Keane is a powerhouse cross country, middle, and long distance runner. Although, regaining the speed and power reached at the end last year is a challenge, the team is willing to put in their devotion and effort. The girls are looking forward to a successful year and regaining their top position at FCIAC’s.
