Shaker Shakes up Fairfield Girls’ Hockey

-By: Emily Close-

The Blue Wave Girls’ Hockey Team proved its first season opener loss to Wilton wasn’t going to hold them back on Monday. (12/13) The odds were against the Wave in this away game against Fairfield Co-op. However, the Wave came out on top, crushing the opponent 7-0. “Their goalie played out of her mind but we just kept peppering her with shots...because we did such an excellent job of keeping the game in their defensive zone," senior captain Lauren Perkins said. The first quarter started off in full swing, with 2 goals, that quarter was followed by 3 goals in the second and 2 in the final quarter. Junior Sara Shaker (pictured) showed that a hat trick wasn’t good enough by scoring 4 goals: two of those goals assisted by junior Emily Tropsa to lead the Wave to victory. Senior captain Ellie Bullitt -- along with junior Alexa Weicker and senior Perrin Brown -- had one goal apiece to add to the Wave’s total of seven goals. With the absence of Class of ’10 grad goalie Katharine Macomber the Wave showed they are beginning to compensate for this tremendous absence. The Wave proved a force not only on offense but in the goal spot. The night gave new freshmen goalie Shannon Hall a shut out. Watch the girls’ improve their record against Trumbull at 6:30pm Thursday (12/16) at Darien Ice Rink.
