Brannigan Swims for a Cure

By Sarah Cattano

Junior Owen Brannigan will be competing in a Swim Across America race on June 22. Swim Across America is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, and has become a popular event for many Americans who have been touched by a cancer story, or are simply swimming to raise money for the cause. Brannigan will be swimming for his Aunt Kathy, who recently won her battle with cancer. As a competitive swimmer, Brannigan is prepared for the 3 mile open water swim that he will complete next month. Brannigan says he has been “training every day,” and plans to swim with his wetsuit on at Woodway Beach Club to acclimate himself with the colder temperatures and varying conditions that the Long Island Sound can offer. Brannigan has currently raised the second most amount of money in the 3 mile swimmer category. On his Facebook page, Brannigan says, “My goal is to raise $3,000, but I know WE can do better.”
Good luck to Owen as he prepares for his big race next month! If you would like to donate to his efforts, log on to www.swimacrossamerica.org !
