Blue Wave Swimmers Crush Warriors in a Blowout

by Zach Basu

September 25th in the world of DHS athletics saw the undefeated Girls Swimming and Diving team take on the Wilton Warriors in the first real test  that the Blue Wave has seen this season. Despite losing key seniors to graduation last year, the Marj Trifone-led squad has maintained high expectations as reigning FCIAC, CIAC, and State Open champions. To say the team has not disappointed thus far in the 2013 season would be an understatement.

Highlights of the meet included 200 medley relay winners Lia Barsanti, Becca Maroney, Lauren Rutledge, and Maggie Orem, who came close to breaking the school record of 1:49 with a time of 1:51:43. Other winners included Captain Amanda Bieler who dominated with times of 1:57:11 in the 200 free and 5:15.34 in the 500 free, as well as Courtney Ferreira in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.88, among many more.

The team was supplemented by a loud turnout of Blue Wave “Super Fans”, some of which went as far as to paint their bodies in support. Captain Bieler said of the meet, “We are very psyched about our win against Wilton since they are one our biggest competitors. Everyone knew that they had a job to do if we wanted to win, so we all went out there and swam our best. I am very proud of how tough everyone swam.”

Come check out the swim team for their next meet on September 25!

Fans Christian Cochran, Brendan Donohue, and Owen Brannigan went all out in support of the swim team.
