On Thursday, September 11, 2013 the Boys Varsity Football team opened up its season versus the reigning state champions, Hillhouse. Coming in as an underdog, Darien, especially the seniors, did not let expectations become reality.

The Blue Wave took a quick 13-0 lead early on. With 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter, the game was delayed due to thunder. Darien led 40-26 at the time. On Friday, Darien finished off Hillhouse, beating them by a score of 46-26. Senior Nick Lombardo put up five touchdowns, and Seniors Jay Harrison and John Reed both came out with a touchdown. Senior quarterback Silas Wyper also finished with a jaw-dropping game throwing for 242 yards and completing 4 touchdowns. Despite their outstanding performance the offensive players were not the only ones out there proving the talent that the Darien High School football team holds. The defense also came up big along with great playing from Senior Matt Vossler, and Junior George Reed, and interceptions from John Reed and Lombardo. “It was a great team win and a great way to start the season,” Lombardo said after the game. Come see the Blue Wave take on FCIAC rival Greenwich on September 21st, home at 2:00. There was a great turnout last game, so let’s see how the turnout is for this one.
