Girls Cross Country Excels at Scrimmage in Trumbull

By Caroline McKay

The Darien Girls Cross Country team had its first meet on Friday September 6th, at 4:30 pm. It was a scrimmage against Joel Barlow High School and took place in Trumbull. The course was 2.50 miles.

“It’s a nice way to kick off the season on a nice flat path,” junior Christy Conley said. Conley said the scrimmage was good to “see how fast you can run in a race setting and then use that as a jumping off point for the rest of the season to improve your times.”

Junior Anne Johnston came in first place, finishing with a time of 15:15. The second place runner, from Barlow, came in 46 seconds later, with a time of 16:01. Soon after junior Erica Osherow, a first-year runner for Darien, came in for third with a time of 16:17.

Catch the girls run next Tuesday (9/10) in Danbury against Danbury, Staples, McMahon, and Westhill at 5 pm.
