Varsity Field Hockey Starts the Season off Strong

By Annie Sullivan

Last Wednesday, September 12th, the Girls Darien High School varsity Field Hockey Team began a great start to its season! The final score of the game was 9-0.

Darien played very aggressively throughout the whole game, scoring five goals in the first half. Then they followed their burst of energy by scoring four more goals in the second half. During the entire game they made sure not to let Stamford score. Sophomore Marissa Baker scored a total of four times. Each of her goals were tips that landed the ball in the right corner. Senior Jackie Brokaw sent two beautiful hits into the circle, each resulting in a tip from junior Kyla Johns. Junior Lee Thalhamer also got into the action and scored in the second half of the game. Seniors Kelsey Bumgardner and Eliza Wizinski also contributed to the score by scoring once each.

The win was a huge team effort, which every player should be proud of. After the game junior Julia Russo commented, “After working so hard this pre-season, it was a well deserved win for the team. It's a boost of confidence that will push us to work even harder for our next game.” Come support the Girls Varsity Field Hockey team this Friday when they play New Canaan at 4:00pm.
Senior Hollis Perticone does her thing on the field.
