Last Wednesday at 4pm the junior varsity soccer team took the always tough JV Greenwich team in an exciting 3-2 loss. Darien was riding a tough streak coming into this game, but they were hopeful to get a result. The game started out well for the Blue Wave when sophomore Ben Bidell scored in the 5th minute a volley off of a beautiful cross. Everything was looking up until Greenwich equalized in the 17th minute. From then the game slowed down and nothing significant happened until twenty minutes after halftime when junior Jack McCann scored an incredible goal bending a shot around the keeper from distance. Darien looked like they might close the game out when suddenly Greenwich equalized only two minutes after the second Darien goal. From then on Darien was in control, keeping possession well and making tough passes, but Greenwich shocked Darien scoring against the run of play in the 71 minute. After that Darien had a few close opportunities, but were unable to score.

When asked why he thought his team was unable to stop the Greenwich attack, Sophomore Tommy Kreuch had this to say “We used a new formation which has been difficult to get used to and may have contributed to our overall disorganization”.

Come cheer on the Darien JV team when they play Danbury next Monday at middlesex upper at 4pm.
