Girls Hockey Takes The Win Against Fairfield

By Julia Clarke

On Wednesday February 22, DHS’ Girls Ice Hockey Team barely wins against Fairfield, scoring two goals. Senior captain and goalie, Emily Gianunzio saved at least two goals from going in and same with the Fairfield goalie. Each team had many shots on each other and lots of opportunities to score.
The team struggled in the beginning of the game, “Rhythm was off and we were all nervously playing”, says Gianunzio. Fortunately in the second period, the team seemed to calm down and play smart, resulting in an amazing assist from Claire Knight to Elis Maro who scored the first goal.
The team was high off adrenaline and Cate Drogan shot the second goal. Darien now has two goals and Fairfield none.Coming back for revenge, Fairfield scores their first and final goal in the last two minutes of the game, resulting in a 2-1 win for Darien High School.“This game was great because we struggled as a team in the beginning, but then we worked together and it really paid off”, says Gianunzio when summarizing the game.
