Darien Blue Wave Boys and Girls Indoor Track team came into Saturday's (1/30) FCIAC Eastern Division Championships with a simple goal in mind: bring home the hardware. The two teams did just that, each of them capturing first place over rival New Canaan High School in the meet held at Zeoli Fieldhouse in Wilton. Even more impressively, the pair of championships mark the 8th consecutive win at this event for the boys, as well as a seven-peat for the girls. Senior Christy Gasparino completed the jumping trifecta for the girl's, easily taking first place in the 45-meter hurdles, high jump, and long jump. Sophomore Robin Bone achieved a monumental milestone in the pole vault, as she first broke her own record, then the meet record, and then shattering the field house record until she finally tapped out at 11’6. On the boy's side, junior John Conley had a banner day, winning both the 1600 meter and 3200-meter races. Junior sprinters Kevin Keller and Stockton McMullin finished one-two in both the 300-meter race and the long jump, with Keller narrowly topping McMullin in each. Junior Austin Cockerill reached 5 feet 10 inches to win the high jump, as well. The meet was an excellent one for both the boy's and girl's track teams, but their season continues Thursday (2/4) at the FCIAC Championship located at Hillhouse High School in New Haven. Supporters are welcome to help cheer on Blue Wave track as they each seek another championship.
