There was a clash of the titans in the Middlesex Middle School New Gym. The Hornets took on the Spurs in an epic battle of big men and huge dreams on Sunday. (1/31) During the first half, the Spurs pulled out a whopping 0 points in the first five minutes, and after about 15 minutes were down 15-29. With morale boosters coming from fluke shots and clutch buckets, the Spurs managed to catch up to 26-29 at the half. With the style and grace usually presented by the Spurs, the game moved quite quickly. After a quick paced second half with the Hornets moving the ball around hastily giving them the ability to get their big men underneath the basket. The game ended with the victory going to the Hornets over the Spurs 43-40.
To tell you the truth though, if we were going by style points, the Spurs had the game in the bag. The Hornets played well, but had extraordinarily textbook tactics. The Spurs used their high scorer Henry “Pepe” Glavin to their advantage. Using his frog-like style of play, he launched from the three-point line and spun underneath the basket and, after putting a large amount of backspin of the ball, had the ball swish into a lovely two-point play. Senior Clarke “The Professor” Glavin taught the Hornets some knowledge with his three-point shooting. Overall this was a great game all the way to the finish, and next week the Spurs take on the Celtics, and the Hornets take on the Knicks in the final regular games of the season on Super Bowl Sunday (2/7)
