The girls indoor track team placed fifth in the state at the New Haven Athletic Center in New Haven on Saturday. (2/20) Both the DHS Boys’ and Girls’ Indoor Track and Field teams competed against every indoor track team in the state. The boys’ placed 10th out of more than 40 teams which is great considering the team only competed with four total athletes.
Senior Christy Gasparino took home the most points winning the girls’ high jump event with a 5’4” jump. Gasparino also placed second in the 55m Hurdles with a time of 8.53 seconds.
Senior Cat Thomas took sixth place in the 1600m run with a time of 5:19.86.
Sophomore Robin Bone took first place in the pole vault, while also setting a new school record and state open record with a height of 11 feet, 10 inches.
The boys’ 4x200m relay team run by junior captain Stockton McMullen, senior captain Brent Eppley, junior Peter McDonough and junior Kevin Keller (pictured) placed 3rd with a time of 1:34.13. Keller also placed second in the boys’ long jump with a jump of 22’1.5” with Stockton McMullen getting into the finals.
All three girls, Kevin Keller and the boys’ 4x200 relay team will go to compete in the New England Meet in Boston on March 5. Good Luck to all of them!
