Wave Crashes in Ocean State Invitational

By Kiki Martin

The Darien High School Girls cross country team traveled to Warwick, Rhode Island over the weekend to participate in the Ocean State Invitational. The team left at 2:30pm on Friday September 27th for the Goddard Memorial State Park in RI. The team was faced with some tough competition at the meet, which took place on Saturday, September 30th. Teams from all over New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and more ran in the meet. The team also faced two other schools from the FCIAC, Westhill and Fairfield Warde. The team placed 4th overall in the JV race with strong performances from junior Samantha Savage, sophomore Sarah LeHan, junior Kate Halabi, and junior Lindsay Holek. They each got medals by placing in the top 30. In the varsity race, juniors Erika Osherow and Anne Johnston showed strong performances. Johnston ended up placing 9th overall.

“It was a great course and a super fun atmosphere. The only downside was that it was very dusty,” senior captain Barbara Bell said. Senior captain Kerry Donovan added, “Everyone had a great race. We are pleased with everyone’s performance, and were impressed with how well our young team came together."

Come support the girls team at its next meet on October 1st at Waveny Park in New Canaan, CT.
