Boys JV Hockey Falls to Ridgefield

by Morgan Sawitsky

On Friday, January 31, Darien's Boys Junior Varsity Hockey Team played Ridgefield at the SoNo Ice rink in Norwalk. The Blue Wave knew that this was going to be one of their tougher games this season due to Ridgefield's past seasons of good records.

The game had to be cut short, so instead of playing three 15 minute periods, the game was only two periods long, both of which were 20 minutes with no stoppage of the clock.

The game started at 7pm on Friday night, and right away Ridgefield started strong. Within the first two minutes, the Tigers scored, putting them up 1-0 already. But Darien did not give up at all, quickly pulling together to try to tie the game up. Seven minutes later, sophomore Robbie Foresta put the puck in the net, tying up the game. Both teams were getting physical and had many options to score, but none seemed to go in. With eight minutes left in the first period, Ridgefield scored again, making the score 2-1 at the end of the first period.

The second 20-minute period started and both teams came out strong. However, Ridgefield seemed to constantly keep the puck in Darien's territory and scored five minutes into the period. With few penalties and fights, the second period went on fast. No stoppage of the clock meant a lot of time was wasted, giving both teams less time to play. Again, Ridgefield scored with five minutes left in the game putting them up 4-1. Darien did not give up. Junior Peter Grant scored the final goal of the game with only three minutes left. Darien lost to Ridgefield 4-2, but Grant said, "As a team we have a lot to work on, but we played a decent game by not giving up."

The boys JV hockey team's next game is at the Darien Ice Rink on Friday, February 7 at 4:40pm against New Canaan. Go Blue Wave!
