After coming off of a tough loss last Friday against
Ridegfield, the Darien Boys Junior Varsity Hockey team played rivals New Canaan
on Friday February 7. The game was played at SoNo Ice Rink, which is a neutral
rink for both teams. The game started at 4:40pm.
New Canaan scored the first goal early on in the game, but
only four minutes after that, Darien sophomore Robbie Foresta tied the game up.
At the five minute mark of the first period New Canaan scored their second goal
of the game, putting them up by one (2-1). Darien had a totally of 10 shots on
goal, out-shooting New Canaan by four shots, but could only seem to finish one
of those 10.
New Canaan out-shot Darien in the second period, by a total
of 7-4, but neither team could put the puck in the back of the net. Darien had
good defense, keeping New Canaan at only one goal up.
Three minutes into the third and final period of the game,
New Canaan scored, making the score 3-1. With a little over three minutes left
in the game, Darien's sophomore Ben Brown scored to make it 2-3. It was clear
that Darien had not given up in this game due to their strong defense and many
scoring opportunities. With 2 minutes left Darien pulled their goalie to try to
tie up the game, but they were unlucky. Overall, both teams took a total of 24
shots and the final score was 2-3 New Canaan.
Come see the JV Puck team take on Stamford next Friday, February
14th at 4:10 at Chelsea Piers.
