Girls Basketball Celebrates Their Seniors

by Mary Brown

After coming off an exciting victory against Staples High School that qualified the Girls Varsity Basketball team for states, the Blue Wave suffered a tough loss against Danbury on Tuesday, February 11th.

With a final score of 28-45, it is evident that Danbury was certainly strong competition for the team. The girls gave it everything they had, and unfortunately could not come out on top.

“All of our effort was there. Our shots just weren’t falling and there’s nothing you can do about that except keep shooting and working for good passes,” junior Avery Maley said. The team did just that, with solid passing, shooting, and defense across the board.

Although the team could not celebrate a victory, they all happily celebrated Senior Day for the team’s two senior captains: Emily Stein and Kelly Karczewski.

Stein and Karczewski have been incredible leaders all throughout the season, on and off the court. The team will most definitely miss their strength, leadership, and athletic ability when next winter rolls around.

For now the team must focus on the remainder of their season and the two senior captains must work to lead their team to success in their final games as Blue Wave basketball players.

Come support the Girls Varsity Basketball team in their next game against rival New Canaan on Thursday, February 13th at New Canaan High School.

The underclassmen rewarded their outstanding senior captains,
Karczewski and Stein, with flowers after a game well played.
