On Thursday, February 6th, the Girls Track team
won the Class L State meet at Hillhouse. Darien had 87 points, followed by
Wilbur Cross of New Haven with 65 points and Windsor with 50.
Junior Anna Sulger beat her own school record in the 300-meter
race, placing first in that event as well as the 600-meter race.
“The championship meets are where we all get to see the hard
weeks of training really pay off. It’s so gratifying to PR in the state meet or
have your relay advance to State Opens, and almost everyone ran their best
times of the season,” junior Kate Halabi said. Halabi placed 12th in
the 1600-meter race, and junior Amanda Percarpio placed 10th.
Junior Anne Johnston placed 3rd in the 3200-meter
race with a time of 11:34.50. Sulger and fellow junior Maddie Schenider, as
well as seniors Catherine Lacy and Dillon Schoen, won the 4x200 meter relay. Lacy
also won both the high jump and the long jump. Darien went 1 and 2 in pole
vault with Schneider placing first and senior Jessica Thornbury placing second.
Darien qualified in several events for States Opens, which
will be held next Saturday, February 15th at Hillhouse in New Haven.
