Darien Girls Hockey hosted Hamden on Tuesday, March 4 for a state qualifying game. Darien is the #1 seed and Hamden is #8. Within the first minute and 38 seconds, ladies Wave Puck had a goal, scored unassisted by sophomore Georgia Cassidy. By the end of the first quarter Cassidy had a hat-trick and senior captain Sage Thatcher scored unassisted as well. Darien had 19 shots on goal in the first quarter, complemented by four saves by senior goalie Shannon Hall.
Hamden started off the second period with a goal but was shut out shortly after senior captain Ellie Bennett scored another unassisted goal. Shannon Hall had one save and Darien had 22 shots on goal. The third period had two goals by sophomore Marissa Baker. She was assisted by juniors Amanda Sload and Lauren Cicero, as well as sophomore Schuyler Van de Broek. Shannon Hall finished the quarter with three saves and Darien had 9 shots on Hamden. The final score of the game was 7-1 to Darien. The Darien Girls Hockey team will be playing Guilford this Thursday as they continue on their path to victory.
