On Saturday, March 15th, the Darien Girls Indoor
Track team headed to the Armory Track in New York City to attend New Balance
Nationals Indoor 2014. This was the
fourth time that Nationals was held at the Armory, and the meet was a success
for everyone.
All in all, there were four National Records made, and 31
meet records made over the course of three days. The Darien Girls 4x200 meter relay team,
consisting of juniors Maddie Schneider and Anna Sulger, as well as seniors Catherine
Lacy and Dillon Schoen, competed, along with Schneider in the pole vault and
Lacy in the long jump. The girls came
away with a successful meet, finishing off the indoor track season with true
Blue Wave Pride.
The 4x200 meter relay team ran well for such a large
championship meet, coming in at a time of 1:44.47, slightly missing their
school record created at New Englands previously this month (1:44.19). Schneider matched her personal best in the
pole vault with a jump of 12 feet 0.75 inches.
Lacy competed in the long jump, jumping a final distance of 5 feet 8
inches.
Overall, the girls worked extremely hard to get to this
point in the season, and their results most definitely paid off. “It was so cool to watch these girls run
their last race together, and they did so well!
Despite the fact that it was the last time this power relay was running
together, they proved to break so many records and will most definitely go down
in history at DHS,” sophomore Helen Wolf said.
Congratulations to the Darien Girls Indoor Track team for such a
successful season, and best of luck to those seniors going off to college this
fall!
