The Darien Blue Wave Boys Lacrosse team is set to play
Deerfield in a preseason scrimmage this March, for the first time in recent
memory.
Darien is coming from an off year during the 2013 spring
season. The team’s record was 12-8, and they failed to win either the State or
FCIAC tournaments. However, the boys are back with a vengeance. With 11 players
committed to play at top colleges around the country, including Bryant, UMass,
Bucknell, Yale, Navy, and Penn, the team is set to make a real impact in the
FCIAC and in the State.
However, being able to make an impact in the state doesn’t
necessarily mean making an impact out of state. Deerfield, a notoriously strong
prep school in Massachusetts, is coming off of a 13-1 2013 season. The
advantage Deerfield has over the Blue Wave is their use of PG students, high
school graduates who spend an extra year at a prep school before going off to
college. Effectively, it means that the Darien team will have to play against
college-aged students.
So will the Blue Wave be able to redeem its poor season last
year? Deerfield is the ultimate test to find out if they’re ready to take on
other opponents such as Niskayuna, Manhasset, and St. Anthony’s.
