On Monday, October
7th, Darien Boys Basketball went up against Stamford High School in a Fall
League exhibition game. It was a close game that Darien pulled away with at
the end winning 56-47.
Darien won the
opening tip and scored while Stamford answered right back with a 3. The Blue Wave and the Black Knights both played
2-3 zones on defense. Stamford showed
good ball movement right off the bat, sharing the sugar and getting open
looks. The game went back and forth with
plenty of defensive stops balanced out with baskets. After 15 minutes of play, the score was 23-29
heading into halftime in favor of the Black Knights. With 5 minutes to go in regulation, the score
was tied 46-46. Senior captain Ames
Murray said “the mindset was to attack.
We’re always going to have an advantage out on the court with a big man
like Chima and clutch performers like Matt, Bobby, and George. So we knew if our defense could get stops for
us, that we would be able to put points up on the board.” Darien started to
pull ahead making the score 50-45 when Stamford called a timeout with 3 minutes
and 46 seconds remaining. Darien ended
up maintaining the lead and won 56-47. When
asked about how he felt the team did, Murray said, “It was a solid
performance. We went into the game with
a game plan in mind, and executed it enough to come out with the win and that’s
really all that matters.”
Darien’s next game
is Monday, October 14th at 8 pm at the Stamford YMCA.
