On Friday, October 18th, the Darien Girls Varsity
Volleyball team faced off against Danbury, as the volleyball season approaches
the last weeks of active competition.
The skill
of both teams became clear early on, when Danbury and Darien traded slim leads.
Over time, however, Darien proved to have the endurance necessary to keep up in
a highly competitive game between talented and practiced players.
Darien also
had better coordination and direction than Danbury. One cringe-worthy moment of
the evening occurred when three Danbury girls lunged for the ball and nearly
collided, missing the ball. After the first half hour of play, Darien began to
pull ahead of Danbury. The Darien girls increased their lead to thirteen,
fourteen, and then fifteen points, before a brief resurgence from Danbury
narrowed the score to 25-15 at the end of the night.
The game
provided a significant boost to team morale, providing strong momentum as the
Girls Varsity Volleyball team plays Bridgeport Central Monday night.
