Blue Wave Field Hockey Continues Its Winning Streak, Now 10-0

by Reed Barthold

The Blue Wave Field Hockey team led by Mo Minicus cruised by their rival New Canaan on Friday afternoon with a 2-0 win to remain undefeated. Despite the fact that New Canaan's bench was almost double the size of the Blue Wave roster, the girls had little to no problem sealing the win throughout the game. The varsity team's season was predicted by many blogs and newspapers in the area to be a rough one due to the team losing 13 seniors to college last year. The underrating the team received seems to be the fuel to its fire as the girls have had little trouble beating any team in their path.
The first half of the game was a slow one as both teams fought for the lead before half time. Finally, with 52 seconds left in the first half, High Forward Hollis Perticone, a sophomore, scored for the Blue Wave with assistance from Kat Huber. New Canaan almost tied it up, but sophomore Goalie Danika Hornick made a stellar save to keep the lead. The Blue Wave capitalized on the save with Left Forward Sam Wright scoring 5 minutes into the second half, strengthening the lead by one. The Blue Wave was able to hold on to the lead to keep New Canaan to a lowly zero points.
Despite the press' thoughts early on in the season, the Blue Wave Field Hockey team seems to be having no issues with any team it has faced so far. The Girls face off against Westhill High school on Monday at 4 PM on the stadium turf at DHS.
