Boys Basketball suffers Setback

By Matt "House" Brown - While the spotlight is on fall sports like football, field hockey, soccer and volleyball, it was hard for me not to peek towards to the winter season. The rebuilding process for Darien Boys Basketball was an extremely daunting task in a perfect world. However, this is not a perfect world, and blue wave basketball suffered a huge loss during fall league this past month. Senior captain Geoff Leeker was getting some offseason work in when around three weeks ago tragedy struck. Leeker tore his ACL and went under the knife a week ago. Geoff was going to be a big part of Coach Marian’s 2011-2012 campaign, snatching in rebounds and showing up defensively. This skillset is one that the team might need to kiss goodbye. “I am doing physical therapy twice a week for at least several months, but I am most likely out for the season,” said Leeker.
The program is by no means as strong as it needs to be, and one of the main display cases of this is depth. Leeker and senior Matt Lee were the only two captains on the team. Beyond that, they were the only two seniors. With Geoff most likely out for the year, this dwindles it down to just Lee.
Blue Wave Basketball is just now trying to get the ball rolling and maybe change the tide around here. This blow to the program is one that is unfortunate and simply a bummer to see. One can do little more than wish them good luck in overcoming this injury as well as a list of adversities.
