Field Hockey’s Undefeated Regular Season Comes to a Close

By Marguerite Morgan - Darien varsity field hockey defeated Greenwich High School 5 to 0 Tuesday October 25th, in their final game of the regular season, leaving them with another undefeated regular season title.
Greenwich came out strong on their home turf and got an offensive corner within the first few minutes of the game. Darien defense, led by sophomore goalie Danika Hornick, cleared the ball immediately and the girls got back into their dominating groove. About 15 minutes into the game, Darien executed on their own offensive corner with a strong shot at the top of the circle by junior Lexie Perticone and a goal for Darien. Junior Sloane Bessey followed Lexie’s example with a strong sweep into the goal a few minutes later. With only a minute left in the first half, junior Cammie Lattimer put another goal on the board for Darien, leaving the score 3 to 0 Darien at half time.
Darien came out in the second half just as strong as they had left off, with an immediate goal by senior Lilly Cassidy. Sophomore Hollis Perticone took a defender and goalie one on one, dodging to the right of both of them and hitting an easy sweep into the goal. After the final whistle, the girls cheered in triumph at their successful undefeated season. Coach Mo Minicus advised Darien to enjoy their deserved victory and begin gearing up for post-season. Darien’s first round of FCIAC’s are this Saturday at Brien McMahon versus Westhill. Come cheer them on at 4:00pm!
