Blue Wave Softball Preview

By Taylor Davis

The DHS Softball team had a rough season last year as they were 13-10; however, despite finishing as the 23rd seed, they made a good run beating the 10th and 7th seeds. The team hopes to be more successful this year and is led by captains Sophia Barbour, Kristen Picard, Brittany Pierce, and Cassidy Schiff.

The team huddles up while playing Trumbull last season
The team only lost two seniors, and this is a great advantage. “I think only losing two seniors benefits us,” Captain Cassidy Schiff said. “There is not a lot of rebuilding to do, so we can just keep rolling.” The team will face some tough competition this year, specifically St. Joes and Trumbull. St. Joe’s has won the FCIAC title for the past three years and according to Schiff, the team battled with Trumbull all last year. The team has big goals for the upcoming season. “Our goal is to make it back to Sacred Heart which is where the FCIAC semis and finals are played,” Schiff said. When I asked Schiff how the team will reach this goal she said, “We can make it there by taking it one game at a time and working hard in practice and making sure we’re not just going through the motions but getting the most out of our time.” Come out and support the Softball team at their first game against St. Joe’s on April 3rd!
